These areas may also support the Federally listed Black Rail in future years as species move north. Should I donate this to the Habitat ReStore?

Access to land and security of tenure is one of the biggest challenges for families around the world seeking adequate housing. In addition to building houses in Cambodia, Habitat empowers residents as they advocate and raise awareness for secure land tenure, helping families stay housed and improve their living conditions. We support your local affiliates’ development projects by advocating for regulatory reforms that create more homeownership opportunities for working families. Leading experts, international organizations, over 100 governments and more gathered in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum’s 2024 annual meeting this January. Habitat CEO Jonathan Reckford attended to give affordable housing a seat at the table.

Appliances, insulation, and hardwood flooring are just a few of the things that companies have donated to make a Habitat house a home. Habitat ReStores divert hundreds of tons from landfills each year, accepting hard-to-dispose-of items including new and used furniture, appliances and surplus building materials. Sales of donated items help Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate and repair safe and affordable homes in your community and around the world — a good deal for you, your community and the environment. Together, we can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future while creating stronger neighborhoods. Habitat ReStores are independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. ReStores accept donations and sell a constantly changing inventory of diverse, high-quality merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price, while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills.

Each ReStore is unique, and many locations also accept items outside these categories. Except where the cut needs to be made to restore tidal flow, the impoundment dikes will stay in place and continue to provide elevated viewing opportunities. Least Bitterns and Virginia Rail, which currently nest in North Pool, will not use the restored salt marsh habitat, other rails, herons, and bitterns will use the restored site. Since being isolated from tidal flooding in the 1950s, the three impoundments have lost 1 to 1.5 feet of elevation relative to the adjacent salt marshes.

Habitat LA can provide low-income homeowners with low-cost home repairs to address health, safety, and security issues in and around the home or to improve energy efficiency. Each program has different requirements and eligible repairs, which are subject to change. Each year, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) partners with low-income homeowners to provide critical health and safety repairs to the interior and exterior of their homes. To determine if they qualify, homeowners must submit a complete program application along with documentation to establish their eligibility.

Habitat Humanitarians are a group of volunteers who also serve as tireless champions, advocates and spokespeople to raise awareness of the need for decent, affordable shelter in the U.S. and around the world. Working with volunteers, families, individuals, corporations, congregations, and donors, we are able to address this important housing issue throughout greater Los Angeles. We are dedicated to making homeownership possible for low-income, hardworking families and individuals. The overwhelming need for housing in our communities has provided Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) with a unique opportunity to change lives in our neighborhoods.

This effort works to improve less visible aspects of housing, like laws, regulations, systems, and policies that affect affordable homeownership. Our Cost of Home campaign is a leading effort to eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing. In addition to building new houses, we also partner with families in need of a new roof, a wheelchair ramp, or other vital repairs.

We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. At this special event, Habitat LA will recognize its partners, supporters, and the three homebuyers who will be moving into their new home. Each residence includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a 2-car garage, as well as green, energy-efficient features. The 2023 Home Builders Blitz has been an integral part of Habitat’s expansion into the Antelope Valley. The development kickstarts a multi-year commitment to this community, where Habitat LA will develop more than 170 additional affordable homes over the next five years. Habitat ReStore accepts new and gently used appliances, furniture, building materials, household goods and more from individuals and companies.

Supporting families affected by disasters requires immediate, comprehensive and collaborative actions. Long after humanitarian aid organizations have completed their relief work, the need for quality shelter and housing remains for months and years. Everyone deserves the security and stability of a decent home that they can afford. Join Habitat for Humanity as we help families in need of a decent place to live through our 2024 Home is the Key campaign.
